Colorful and Whimsical Handmade Majolica Clay Pottery
Faience, maiolica, majolica---three different words that describe the process I use to create my handmade, thrown or slab built clay pottery. I use a traditional red earthenware clay and then glaze the work with a creamy white maiolica glaze on which I decorate with my cheery and bright designs.

Earthenware Pottery Clay Bowl Blue Green Dragonfly with Yellow Stripes / Hand Thrown / Clay Lick Creek Pottery
My hand thrown, red earthenware clay, pottery bowl features two dragonflies swirling around each other against a turquoise blue sky background. The bodies of the dragonflies are deep peacock blue with yellow wings and a single accent dot of red on the thorax (neck region). Yellow and white alternating stripes complete the flared rim.
The 8" x 3" (20 cm x 7 cm) bowl has a flared rim which angles out from the bowl proper. The flared rim is glazed in colors of orange/yellow accented with smaller peacock blue stripes alternating with the white glaze background. The outside of the bowl is glazed in rich colors of greens and aquamarines.
This bowl is a fun whimsical piece that is inspired by the aerodynamic antics of the dragonflies in my garden.
Glazed with a non-toxic maiolica glaze, my bowl is food safe, can be put in the microwave for short warm ups and placed on the top rack of the dishwasher.

All pottery from Clay Lick Creek Pottery is handmade by me in Makanda, IL, using an electric wheel or a slab roller. I use a traditional red earthenware clay for my non-toxic Maiolica glazes. Bottoms are trimmed to create a foot ring and are signed and dated. Pieces can be used in the microwave for quick warm ups (unless noted) and top rack of the dishwasher (unless noted).
