Colorful and Whimsical Handmade Majolica Clay Pottery
Faience, maiolica, majolica---three different words that describe the process I use to create my handmade, thrown or slab built clay pottery. I use a traditional red earthenware clay and then glaze the work with a creamy white maiolica glaze on which I decorate with my cheery and bright designs.

Pottery Clay Bowl Earthenware Handmade Blue Green Leaf / Hand Thrown Clay Lick Creek Pottery
On my red earthenware clay serving bowl, shades of green leaves shaped like the feathers of a proud peacock flow downstream in water the cool blue colors of turquoise and teal. The blue background is punctuated with darker dashes of blue. The outside of the bowl is in warmer shades of yellow gold and brown--small red dots and then topped with stripes of teal and turquoise. There is a lot of action happening in this bowl!
I hand throw red earthenware clay to form this 8.5" (22 cm) x 3.5" (9.5 cm) bowl. It's a wonderful serving bowl size and fruit (such as contrasting oranges) would look beautiful in it.
Glazed using a non-toxic maiolica glaze - the bowl is food safe and can be put in the microwave for quick warm ups.but would not recommend putting in the microwave because of its size. It also has a cord strung through the foot for wall display.
This piece would make a conversation starting wedding gift.

All pottery from Clay Lick Creek Pottery is made by me using an electric wheel or a slab roller. I use a traditional red earthenware clay for my non-toxic Maiolica glazes. Bottoms are trimmed to create a foot ring and are signed and dated. Pieces can be used in the microwave for quick warm ups (unless noted) and top rack of the dishwasher (unless noted).
